My vocal and guitar were recorded live, late at night. And it was one of only a few song that I had recorded, so when we were looking for a single to release to raise money for a local non-profit, it was the obvious choice. This album met with critical success but received little airplay. We finished the song long before the pandemic. Droges next album, Find A Door, was released two years later in the summer of 1996 under the name of Pete Droge and The Sinners his backing band included Dave Hull (bass), Rob Brill (drums), Peter Stroud (guitar/vocals) and Elaine Summers (guitar/vocals). I can tell you it was NOT written about COVID-19. I won't go into detail about our lyrical inspiration. Then, during a late night writing session the lyric "it's something that we're gonna get thru together" arrived and the direction of the song was sealed.
I brought the idea home to my songwriting partner Elaine Summers and we chiseled the song into shape over many months.įor the longest time we had placeholder lyrics that sang great but did not fit the feeling of the music or say what we wanted to say.Īctually, at that point we didn't know what the song wanted to say. 'Skeleton Crew' - Pete Droge (featuring Elaine Summers) While singer/songwriters are relatively common here on Fingertips, I dont end up featuring a lot of 'man with a guitar' or 'woman with a guitar' tunes. I started writing "Skeleton Crew" in November of 2017 during a solo meditation retreat on the Oregon coast.
